I.Pundareekam and Prathivachanam

Starting of the Bhajan
Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

Religious functions including Bhajans start with the mass chanting of the names of God. It is normal for a leader to request the people to chant name of a particular God and the assembled people together chant the name of that God.

Sri Rama Jayam
(Victory to Rama)
Sri Guru Charanaravindabhyam Nama
(Salutations to the lotus like feet of the Guru)

I . Pundareekam and Prathivachanam
(Exhortation and reply)

Translated by

P.R.Ramachander

This is a usual method of infusing an atmosphere of Bhakthi among the audience. For example the leader exhorts the audience to remember Lord Rama and they all respond, “Victory to Rama”.

Janaki jeevana smaranam Jaya jaya Rama Rama
(Remember the soul of Sita) (Victory, victory to Rama, Rama)

Nama Parvathi pathaye Hara hara Maha deva
(Salute the consort of Parvathi) (Hara, Hara, the greatest God)

Govinda Nama sankeerthanam Govinda, Govinda
(Sing the names of Govinda) (Govinda, Govinda)

Pundaleeka varada Hare vittala
(The one who blessed Pundaleeka) (Lord Vishnu who is Vittala0

Anjaneya moorthiki Jaya
